What decides the cost of a restaurant website in India?

If you own a restaurant or cafe, you have probably heard very different prices from different people. The difference is not magic. It comes from a handful of choices. Here is how to understand them before you talk to any web developer.
1. Number of pages
A simple one-page site (about, menu, contact) is quick to build. Separate pages for menu, gallery, offers and events take more design and testing time, so they cost more.
2. Online menu: image or real menu?
A photo of your printed menu is cheap but bad for Google and hard to read on a phone. A real, typed menu with categories and filters is better for customers and for search, and it needs more work.
3. Table booking
A simple "call or WhatsApp us" button costs almost nothing. A booking form with validation, time slots and email or WhatsApp alerts is a real feature and is priced as one. Restaurant sites I built, like Mondol Restaurant and Rao's Restaurant, include a reservation flow.
4. Mobile-first design
Most people find restaurants on their phone. A site that only looks good on a laptop loses customers. Always ask the developer to show you the site on a phone before you pay.
5. Online ordering and payments
Taking orders or payments on your own site is a different level of work from a brochure site: a cart, payment gateway, order handling and security. Many owners start with a brochure site and add ordering later. A shop-style example is MAISON Store, which has a full cart.
6. Hosting, domain and yearly costs
Ask what is included. A domain name (like yourname.com) and hosting are yearly costs. Some developers include the first year, some do not. Get this in writing.
7. Photos and content
Good food photos matter more than fancy animation. If you do not have photos or text ready, the developer has to wait for you or create content, which adds time.
8. Who builds it
A freelancer usually charges less than an agency because there is no office or sales team. The trade-off is that you must check their past work. Ask for live links, not just screenshots.
Questions to ask before you pay
- Can I see two or three live websites you built?
- Is the domain and hosting included, and for how long?
- Who owns the code and the site after it is done?
- Will it work properly on my phone?
- Can I edit the menu myself later, or do I pay you for every change?
- What happens if something breaks after launch?
